Tips for Creating Relevant Facebook Ads

Facebook has recently begun rolling out a new feature to help you make the most out of your Facebook ads. Starting this week, they began showing a “relevance score” to marketers, a calculation based on both the positive and negative feedback they believe an ad will receive from its targeted audience. These scores range from 1 to 10, and will be continually updated as user feedback and interaction increases. For those who use Facebook ads to promote their practice, take a look at some tips for creating relevant and effective ads.

  • Know your audience. A big part of creating effective Facebook ads is to have an understanding of who your target audience is. For example, OB/GYN practices should focus their ads on women, while practices focused on geriatric medicine should only target viewers of a certain age. If you’re not sure who your target audience is, Facebook Insights contain detailed demographic data about who likes your business page.
  • Choose a good image. The image attached to your Facebook ad is what will initially catch the user’s eye, so make sure that it is something that is both relevant to the content of the ad and will stand out in a Facebook news feed. Think about the audience you are trying to attract with your ad, and make sure the image will appeal to that demographic.
  • Write clear and concise content. Facebook ads only give you 25 characters for the title and 90 for the body, so it’s important that you’re able to convey your message concisely. Ideally, you should be able to explain the entire ad with just your title and image. A clear call-to-action gives the viewer a reason to click the ad, so it’s important to make sure this is in the title or body of your ad.
